Urban park and Sport Centre in Brenes

On this project there are two important aspects to keep in mind. One for the site that is inserted in between residential, industrial and rural areas, and another for the restrictive infrastructures and the stream that frame the place. That is why it was necessary to propose a master plan and then the building itself.

The area is now in decline and is to be reinstated as an urban element of the city. The regeneration of the study plan tries to articulate the flow of citizens between the residential area and the orchards by the stream.

At present the existing use does give material form to only two dimensions (linear and surface). In this proposal the territory achieves the third and fourth dimension (volume and time/life). The plan adapts to the topography of the zone with a kind of platform; green spaces are integrated throughout.

The sport centre and the services facilities are built in one of the platforms which solves the differences in height. This building digs into the new topography and plays with the quality of light, depth and shade.

  1. Carlota, it's a great description and I'm interested that you looked to the Europan entries for inspiration. I can read both Ceuta and Cáceres in this description. They are both excellent descriptions of buildings and you've chosen the best bits to bring life to a description to an un-built project. Actually, thinking about that now, it was an amazing idea to look at un-built projects to describe your project as they deal with the more direct responses to site and brief. Well done.
